"Nobody knows the city like our friends at pineapple DC, so we asked them to recommend their favorite female-run food businesses in the nation's capital. (pineapple is a great organization dedicated to supporting women in the local food scene through networking and collaboration.)
Whether you need a latte, a doughnut, or an awesome vegan taco on the day of the march, here are some places to check out:
COFFEE: Fuel up with local Bluebird Bakery treats and Stumptown coffee at one of the many Dolcezza spots (co-owned by Violeta Edelman) located throughout the city.
BRUNCH: You'll feel at home in the cozy dining room of Sally’s Middle Name (co-owned by Aphra Adkins) with dishes like Thai Rice Porridge with pork and poached egg from Chef de Cuisine Miranda Rosenfelt.
LUNCH: Be sure to visit Chaia for local, seasonal, and delightful tacos from Suzanne Simon and Bettina Stern. (Pro tip: pineapple co-founder Ann Yang's Misfit Juice is on tap). Everything here is vegan or vegetarian.
DINNER: Dine at Chef Seng Luangrath's acclaimed Laotian restaurant Thip Khao in the Columbia Heights neighborhood.
DESSERT: Don't miss the cakes, cookies, and ice cream at RareSweets. Pastry chef and founder Meredith Tomason's biscuits are a treat too.
RELAX: Staying an extra day? Spend an afternoon at the National Museum of American History and check out Julia Child’s actual kitchen, then swing by On Rye for Ilyse Fishman Lerner’s delightful vegetarian Reuben or a babka ice cream sandwich.
We're excited to march on the 21st and stand up for women's rights. If you spot someone in one of our protest t-shirts (above) be sure to say hello! (The shirts are for sale on our site and $5 from each goes to the Women's March Foundation.) It's going to be an amazing day and we hope to bump into you if you're in D.C. For those marching elsewhere, know that we're with you in spirit!
Thank you to the pineapple gals for their yummy list. They're the Bombe and so are you! For more about pineapple DC and women-owned businesses in the city, check out our social media starting today and leading up to the march.
All the best,
The Cherry Bombe Team"
